Michael Do

Michael has had specialist roles covering scheme finance and risk management.

Michael has over 20 years in the pensions industry of which 14 years was spent working for two of the UK’s largest occupational pension schemes (up to £35bn).

Michael started his career as a specialist pension scheme auditor and as such Michael understands the requirements and processes of auditors and ensures the audit process is more efficient for trustees.

As Head of Finance for two of the UK’s biggest pension schemes (banking sector sponsors) Michael has been responsible for scheme financial controls (including those operated by third party suppliers) and the production of annual report and accounts and overseeing audits (internal and external).

Michael’s Head of Finance Roles also included risk management responsibilities where he adapted financial services risk management methodologies to meet the needs of schemes, trustees and members. This included designing and overseeing the implementation of a scheme’s strategic risk management framework (including coverage of assets, liabilities, third party and cyber risks).

Michael is also an Executive Board member of PRAG (the Pensions Research Accountants Group) who are responsible to setting the pensions accounting standards. Michael contributed to PRAG’s published guidance of accounting for derivates and for management of cyber risks.

Michael is also a member of the ICAEW’s pensions subcommittee which looks at pensions issues impacting their members and, where necessary, provides guidance or makes responses to regulatory consultations (for example the Pensions Regulator’s Single Code).
