Overview

Independent Governance Group (IGG) specialises in providing professional pensions trusteeship, scheme secretarial, pensions managerial and governance services.

The company was founded in 2023 following the merger of two long-standing professional pension trustee firms – Independent Trustee Services and Ross Trustees. The merger of the two businesses to form IGG led to the creation of one of the leading providers in the UK.

We are a fast-growing business and attract talent from across the pensions industry. Our multi-disciplinary team includes wide-ranging expertise in all areas and at every level. Investment specialists, legal advisers, actuaries, analysts, covenant and restructuring experts, pensions managers, project managers and scheme secretaries deliver value through collective excellence and a fully-integrated, team-based approach.

Our collective experience means there is rarely anything that we have not seen before. Pensions is complex and ever-changing and we are proactive in bringing fresh ideas to help clients achieve their strategic aims.

With no affiliations to other pensions consultancies, we are well-positioned to bring independence of thought to what we do and work with the best advisers for any role or project. Clients also benefit from the constructive relationships we enjoy with key bodies like the Pensions Regulator and the Pension Protection Fund.

We are a prominent member of the Association of Professional Pension Trustees (APPT) and the Pensions Management Institute (PMI). Members of the firm play a leading role in APPT and PMI committees and all Trustee Directors, as well as other senior members of the team, are either fully-accredited as professional trustees or working towards accreditation.

What We Do

Professional pension trusteeship is delivered through a combination of chair of trustees, co-trustee and professional corporate sole trustee appointments. Our experience across all types of governance models ensures we are well-placed to help clients identify and then help deliver the best approach for their pensions arrangements.

We are appointed as trustee to a wide-range of schemes of all types and sizes, ranging in asset size from the low millions through to multi-billion pound funds. Many of our schemes have assets under governance of £1bn+ and we hold appointments to some of the UK’s largest pension schemes and master trusts. We have experience across many industry sectors and work with employers based in the UK and also based overseas.

We operate an integrated team approach meaning clients not only appoint a dedicated trustee but also a much wider team of pensions specialists providing the necessary resource and expertise to execute our work efficiently and cost-effectively. We believe in the right person for the right job – at the right cost.

Our professional trusteeship services are supplemented by scheme secretarial and outsourced pensions management. Services are provided on an ongoing basis, either as part of a comprehensive package that includes trusteeship or on a standalone basis. We also support projects with either individual or team-based resource and can flex in and out as clients require. We are agile and have experience and quality at all levels.

Charity Partnership

IGG and RedSTART

We are delighted to partner with RedSTART, a charity which aims to transform the life chances of primary-school children across the UK through financial education. Our team volunteers to teach primary school children from some of our most disadvantaged communities how money works and give them the skills they need in later life.

What RedSTART do

Starting Early

Getting a head start means starting early. Through seven years of primary school, RedSTART foster and track pupils’ development, running programs and providing resources for teachers and parents.

Upskilling Children

The Charity teach primary school children from some our most disadvantaged communities how money works and give them the skills they need to avoid ending up in debt traps. They teach children progressively, building on their previous years’ knowledge.

Helping Thousands

RedSTART are helping 47 primary schools to deliver circa 175,000 hours of financial education for over 17,000 children and 20 engaged partners.

Reducing Inequality

As financial literacy levels fall, income inequality rises, and a growing expectation for self-provision causes a host of other issues, this work has never been more urgent.

Backed by Studies

RedSTART’s work includes a unique longitudinal study run by a leading academic team from King’s College Policy Institute to examine the impact interventions are having on the attitude, behaviour and educational attainment of the children.

Research Publication

RedSTART will analyse and publish the findings from the longitudinal study, forecasting the potential consequences of inaction.
