Ellis is a Senior Associate with ten years’ experience in defined benefit pensions, supporting trustees in meeting their governance, regulatory and strategic objectives. He combines a strong technical grounding with a pragmatic, client-focused approach, helping schemes navigate an evolving regulatory landscape.

Ellis has developed particular expertise in risk transfer, working on buy-in and buy-out projects across multiple schemes and drawing on his administration background to ensure schemes are well prepared for market. Alongside this, he has strong experience in scheme governance, including Own Risk Assessment requirements, complex discretionary decisions, and acting as Scheme Secretary across multiple appointments.

He is particularly skilled at interpreting legislation and regulatory developments and translating these into clear, actionable guidance for trustees.

He has successfully completed the TPR Trustee Toolkit and is currently working towards APPT accreditation.

  • Scheme Secretary across a portfolio of DB schemes, managing day-to-day governance, trustee meetings, and stakeholder relationships.
  • Supports buy-in and buy-out & risk transfer work across multiple schemes, drawing on a strong administration background in preparing schemes for transaction.
  • Supports on a life assurance scheme including direct member and beneficiary engagement in sensitive circumstances.
  • Extensive experience of IDRP drafting and management.
  • Governance gap analysis and policy review under the new General Code framework.
  • Advises on trustee discretion and complex death cases, including audits of decision-making on a Master Trust.
  • Adviser benchmarking, reviews and tenders including administration transitions.
