Janine is a qualified actuary with over 25 years of experience in the pensions industry.

Janine acts as a trustee for a wide variety of pension schemes, in various capacities as Chair, co-trustee and sole trustee as well as chairing investment subcommittees.

Janine’s philosophy is to work in an inclusive, collaborative way with trustee board members and sponsors allowing for the different motivations and levels of knowledge, drawing out and bringing together opinions and using this to underpin sound decision making.

Janine is a strong believer that a trustee’s duty is to safeguard members’ rights and to deliver their benefits. However, it is also the sponsor’s scheme and delivery of the benefits must be done in a way that makes sense to the activities of the sponsor.

Worked with schemes at all stages of the pension lifecycle, from the recent establishment of a brand-new scheme to closing DB sections to self-sufficiency or eventual buy-in/buy-out.

Worked with a range of employers, including an Ofgem regulated employer, overseas parents and private equity owners to understand their businesses and how their pension arrangements impact their success, including working with them to reduce funding volatility and ease the pressure on their balance sheet.

Implemented changes in investment strategy including LDI strategies, fiduciary management and de-risking plans.

Experience of working with advisers and sponsors, as appropriate, to streamline and control costs of administering and risks associated with running schemes.

Establishment of governance structures, including structure of subcommittees, business plans and risk registers, both for newly established and existing schemes.

Worked on liability management member option exercises, in conjunction with the employer, to assist with management of scheme liabilities, whilst ensuring that members’ interests are always safeguarded.

Experience of using a variety of approaches to scheme funding to limit the immediate cash requirements on the sponsor including parent company guarantees, asset backed funding arrangements contingent assets, escrow accounts and contingent funding agreements.
