Maria Keen

Maria is a fully accredited professional trustee with 20+ years’ experience and a strong track record of providing clear, confident leadership on complex, high-impact pension scheme projects.

She has led trustee boards through significant strategic change, including risk transfer (buy–in through to wind–up), investment strategy transitions, wider de-risking initiatives, valuations, member options exercises and GMP equalisation.

She is a member of the IGG Data Integrity Team, where she contributes to the oversight of GDPR and cyber risk, ensuring risks are managed effectively and is also a Risk Transfer Specialist within IGG’s Centre of Excellence.

As a trustee, Maria plays a central role in setting direction and maintaining momentum across projects. She ensures effective collaboration between advisers, employers and trustee boards, while providing robust, independent challenge to advisers to secure pragmatic outcomes, strong risk management and demonstrable value for money for members.

Maria brings deep experience in scheme governance and the practical challenges faced by trustees. She is frequently relied upon as a trusted sounding board, supporting boards in their decision-making by translating complex technical advice into clear options aligned with trustee duties, scheme objectives and member interests.

Her governance expertise includes ensuring decision-making structures are fit for purpose and that boards remain well informed on emerging pensions developments and regulatory change.

In addition to her external trustee roles, Maria has demonstrated leadership through managing and developing internal teams, overseeing the implementation of evolving pensions legislation and embedding high standards of governance, data integrity and regulatory compliance.
